Noctilucent Clouds over London

Noctilucent Clouds over London

Noctilucent cloud season has well and truly arrived, with sightings over many nights during June.

For many days I could see reports on Twitter but every time I went to have a look the sky was either full of clouds or empty of those night-shining clouds I’d hoped to see.

But one night I got lucky and there was a fine display that went on until dawn. I even managed to get a timelapse of them, so you can see their dynamic nature:

Noctilucent clouds are around 80 km high so they reflect the sun's light during the night. They are only visible in the summer months, such as June - August ...

For those that want to know more about these beautiful clouds, I wrote a guest post about them on the Natural Navigator’s web site, which you can find here.
